We enjoy attending the programs, classes and especially the special events.  We thought our social life would die down as we retired but we're busier than ever!

The Amherst Center for Senior Services works collaboratively with Meals on Wheels to provide services to the community.  The staff of the Center is always ready to assist in any way to ensure that nutrition needs are being met in Amherst.  I believe this stems from their strong leadership.

I have always been proud to serve on the Town of Amherst Board, especially for my role as the Amherst Senior Center Liaison.  Our community is fortunate to have such a wonderful facility with such a committed staff.

You guys are doing a great job with things. It’s great you’re able to get folks together despite pandemic challenges.

We were walking at Island Park earlier this week as one of your events broke up and there were a lot of smiles amongst the folks departing. We could certainly see how much they enjoyed the fellowship.

WHY JOIN?

The Amherst Senior Center is a community focal point.

Compared with their peers, senior center participants have higher levels of health, social interaction, and life satisfaction.

The Center connects older adults to vital community services that can help you stay healthy and independent.

We have a wide variety of programs and services, including:  Nutrition program, information and assistance, health, fitness and wellness programs, transportation services, public benefits counseling, employment assistance, volunteer opportunities, social and recreational activities, education and arts programs, and intergenerational programs in partnership with the Amherst Youth & Recreation Department.

Research shows that older adults who participate in senior programs can learn to manage or delay the onset of chronic disease and experience measurable improvements in their physical, social, spiritual, emotional, mental, and economic well-being.

Our Center is reinventing itself to meet the needs and desires of the aging baby boom generation.  Boomers now constitute more than two-thirds of the 50+ population.
