Membership Information

Who Can Join the Amherst Center for Senior Services?

At the Amherst Center for Senior Services, our programs and facilities are designed for independent older adults. To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants, the following senior center eligibility guidelines must be met to qualify for membership:

    Basic Eligibility Criteria:

    • Must be 50 years of age or older.

    • Able to safely navigate the senior center and field trip locations independently.

    • Capable of arranging transportation to and from the Center, including the ability to safely enter and exit vehicles (for those using Amherst Senior Transportation Services).

    • Able to understand and follow directions provided by staff members.

    • Can recognize and appropriately respond to emergency situations.

    • Demonstrates appropriate social behavior, including respectful language and manners.

    • Must be able to eat independently.

    • Must be able to use restroom facilities unassisted.

    • Must pose no risk to self or others in a community setting.

    An individual who requires assistance with activities of daily living may be able to join in Center activities if he/she has a companion or family member with them at all times and approval from the Center Director.

    All program applicants must meet eligibility requirements, adhere to the Code of Conduct for the Senior Center, and follow the guidelines. The Amherst Center for Senior Services reserves the right to deny access to the Senior Center or to discharge a participant when program eligibility requirements are no longer met.

    APPEALS

    ​

    Senior Center staff (includes Social Case Worker & Program Representative) will make the initial determination as to membership eligibility and advise potential participants of other resources that may better meet their needs. If membership has been denied, a potential participant may file a written appeal. The appeal should contain the facts pertinent to the case. Mail or personally deliver the appeal to the Director of Senior Services. The appeal must be received within ten business days of membership denial. The decision of the Director or his/her designee shall be final.

    Amherst Resident Membership

    You must pay taxes to the Town of Amherst to receive the following membership fees.

    • $50 Lifetime Individual Membership

    • $75 Lifetime Couple or Household Membership

    Non-Resident Membership

    As of January 1, 2025, we are no longer accepting NEW non-Amherst resident memberships.  We appreciate your understanding!

    JOINING PROCEDURE

    If you are interested in joining the Amherst Center for Senior Services, please complete the membership application online and pay with a credit card.  ​

    Paying for Your Membership via cash or check? You must come into the Center to complete your application.
